»Ultramar: Fontana, Kuitca, Seeber, Tessi«
Museo Thyssen Bornemisza, Madrid (ES)
Opening: Tuesday, February 21, 2017

Exhibition until May 21, 2017

The works of »Ultramar« share the economy of color, the interest in painting as a fertile territory of exploration, the scarcity of subjectivism and the purposeful guided conflict of the plane through controlled vanishing points outside the boundaries of the canvas or radical gestures that intervene.

The four works of the Argentines Lucio Fontana, Guillermo Kuitca, Alejandra Seeber and Juan Tessi are presented in the halls of the 20th Century Avantgarde of Thyssen Bornemisza Museum. While they conform a show, they do articulate a dialogue with the permanent collection, releasing disciplinary issues typical of the 21st century. The worries that slip into the body of works of each of these artists question the present and think a future for painting, through various tactics such as the use of restrictive procedures or the exercise of the possibilities of discipline through dismantling, re-assembly or multiplication of images. They thus test explicit responses to sharply artistic questions: how to confront the millions of singular forms, how to reduce the fascinating diversity of the world, how to catch fugitive forms in their transitory states? The answer to these questions, for the artists, are included within the painting itself.
