From the beginning of her career starting with her first exhibition at Galerie Ricke in Cologne 1970, Harriet Korman focused on abstract painting based on a few selected aspects: simplicity of means, purity of color, and the intended, stimulating imbalance of the picture’s composition are her main criteria.
She established her artistic approach in the 1960s in New York as a student of Richard Serra. At a time when others proclaimed the »abandoning of the picture«, Korman dedicated herself to perpetually explore the picture plane. The result of her examinations are paintings of different qualities – painterly, organic or geometrical.
