The painted work of Peter Young begins in the early sixties, at the peak of Minimalism. In his early series, which superficial base on geometrical framework and a main principal in serial repeat Young refers to the rules of Minimal Art but he faces those rules with a unmistakable sense of irony. Geometrical patterns become open-worked and with closer viewing one can recognize a nonchalant and hand made quality, the mathematical follows into improvised and grid structures are replaced by circles as a free and effortless form.
Young’s interest in foreign cultures, in poetry as in psychedelic and spiritual experiences leads him to a very personal language in shape, which is expressed in many very variable group of works.
