Illumination: September 15, 2017 (by invitation only)

Brigitte Kowanz’ light work »Fountain« was acquired on the initiative of Cornelius Grupp, to provide a permanent light spot for the City of St. Pölten. »For more than 100 years,« Cornelius Grupp comments, »the traditional industrial enterprise Glanzstoff Austria was a major employer for St. Pölten and thus participated in the shaping of its character and history, accompanying the lives of the locals. Contemporary art can be formative and contains the potential to create meaning, as Brigitte Kowanz’ light sculpture proves. It is our aim to use the legacy of this work as a field of force for the future«.

Kowanz’ light work is based on observations of the industrial grounds. The artist synthesizes the places’ history, the architecture of the industrial buildings, and the vision of an urban, post-industrial development of the area. She places an arch starting from one of the four water tower’s top and anchors it to the soil. It adds an aura of impressive presence to the place by day and by night.
