James Turrell »The Substance of Light«
Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden (DE)
June 9 – October 28, 2018

We are delighted to announce James Turrell‘s exhibition »The Substance of Light« at Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden, which was realized in close cooperation with Häusler Contemporary.

The exhibition brings together works from James Turrell’s best-known work groups from the last decades and hitherdo unseen works, along with the new light work »Accretion Disk«, which was developed especially for the Frieder Burda Collection. A piece from 2016, from the important series of »Wedgeworks«, shows how the artist creates illusionist spatial situations using light. The highlights of the show include the enormous »Ganzfeld« light room »Apani«, which caused a sensation at the Venice Biennale in 2011. James Turrell’s long-term project »Roden Crater« is also represented at the exhibition: an extinct volcano in the Arizona desert, which the artist has been converting into a kind of observatory since the 1970s.
