For example, the cold glow of bottles and tubes filled with fluorescent paint meets delicate installations made of sandblasted acrylic glass panes and halogen lamps, which immerse the exhibition space in a sensual-poetic play of light and shadow. In addition to such early works, in which processes of lighting are a particular theme, numerous works from the following years are presented in which, for example, neon loops – in the form of characters and codes – formulate sociopolitical and cultural-theoretical messages. With such works in particular, Kowanz illustrates that light is not just a neutral vehicle for information, but rather plays a key role in shaping it. All in all, the solo show questions fundamental certainties: information is not as unambiguous as we would like it to be – a message that is clearly echoed in our supposedly «post-factual times».
