We are delighted to present a carefully curated selection of works by our internationally renowned artists in our Collector's Room, which we see as a place for exchange and consultation. Discover the groundbreaking neon works by Keith Sonnier, the vibrant abstract paintings by Judy Ledgerwood and the “Time Sculptures” by Roman Signer. Experience how light, color and movement merge into an intense art experience in this special setting.

Judy Ledgerwood (1959) has created canvases and wall paintings in which ornament and color play a major role since the 1980s. The artist intentionally takes her own position within recent art history and challenges its prevailing, supposedly fixed premises and role assignments. She adopts influences from color field and action painting and combines them with simple geometric patterns reminiscent of popular culture and textile design, and often associated with femininity. Judy Ledgerwood thus arrives at colorful, strong, and sensual compositions that postulate ornament as an artistic design element.

Roman Signer (1938) has always seen himself as a sculptor. He even refers to actions that only last for short moments as sculpture. In these «time sculptures», he is always concerned with problems, actions and time sequences in space. The temporal dimension of his work becomes a metaphor for change and development. Spontaneity and ephemerality can be expressed that way, while the traditional monumental character of the imagery transforms into a more comprehensive overall structure of space and time. With this innovative approach, Roman Signer has significantly contributed to a new understanding of sculpture since the 1970s.

Light was the preferred artistic means of Keith Sonnier (1941-2020) who was one of the trailblazers towards a «new sculpture» in the 1970s. Until then, the neon tube was mainly known from advertising and the everyday life. Keith Sonnier though combined it with glass, fabric, latex or metal, in order to emphasize the sensual and emotional qualities of theses materials. The artist also realized numerous projects of art in architecture, among which his work for Munich’s new airport (1989-92) is a particularly important.
