«Each color tells its own story,» says Jörn Stoya. «Not only does it have a sound, but it also has its own taste and smell.» With his bare hands, the Düsseldorf artist (* 1957 in Lüneburg) applies pure pigments to his canvases. His energetic images turn color into a sensual experience, immersing the viewer in vibrant color spaces.

As part of a special collection presentation, Stoya's works enter into a dialogue with works from the Museum Morsbroich collection as well as top-class private collections with which the museum collaborates on a permanent basis. These collaborations allow us to present important works by internationally renowned artists such as Jeff Koons, Sol LeWitt or Joseph Marioni for the first time in a collection presentation. On view are outstanding paintings and also some sculptures from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Painter Jörn Stoya selected them together with the two collection curators Fritz Emslander and Stefanie Kreuzer and – as in his own works – punkts everything on color.

In the historical surroundings, a dialogue and interdisciplinary discussion about color as the basis of art unfolds, whether as a vehicle of expression, as a structuring or space-shaping pictorial element, as an atmospheric medium or as a tonal hue.
