With its official handover on 26 October 2026, Zug railway station has regained an artwork of international renown: «Light Transport» by James Turrell (b. 1943), one of the most important light artists of our time. Commissioned by SBB AG, the artist has reworked his 2003 installation with state-of-the-art LED technology and expanded it with a second light sequence. Each luminaire can now be controlled with greater precision, allowing for subtler colour gradients and softer transitions. The result is an entirely new work of light art, a project Häusler Contemporary has closely accompanied.

«Light Transport» is an integral part of the station building, completed in 2003 by Hornberger Architekten. At night, Turrell's installation bathes the three gallery levels of the station hall, the glass roof and the glazed main façade facing the roundabout in flowing gradients of colour. Architecture and light merge into a sensory space that unfolds its full power at dusk. Once the bustle of the day has subsided, the station, a hub of urban life, becomes a luminous gateway to the city. The vast, empty hall turns into a place of contemplation, inviting visitors to pause, to look and to perceive.

Visitor information: The work is publicly accessible and can be seen daily from sunset until 11 pm, and from September to April also from 5:45 am until sunrise. The original 2003 version has been preserved and will be shown on special occasions.
