Häusler Contemporary Zürich is pleased to commence the new year with an encounter of two important positions of contemporary painting: selected works from different creative periods by David Reed and Richard Allen Morris, some of which are presented for the first time in Switzerland, open up an exciting dialogue between each other.
Paintings by David Reed (*1946 in San Diego, lives in New York) and by Richard Allen Morris (*1933 geboren in Long Beach, lives in San Dieg0) both have a great appeal of their own. Facing David Reed’s works, we are captured by the dynamics of the painterly gesture that seems spontaneous and yet worked very precisely, spatially three-dimensional but at the same time disembodied and transparent. The way Reed transfers characteristics of the New Media to painting is unique. Richard Allen Morris’ works attract us by radiating spontaneity full of relish, by oscillating between figuration and abstraction and between picture and object. He is outstanding in fathoming the various options of painting, between high and low art, with humor and irony.
