Seit Beginn Ihrer Karriere mit der ersten Ausstellung 1970 bei Rolf Ricke in Köln ist es abstrakte Malerei, die Harriet Korman mit Fokus auf wenige ausgewählte Aspekte untersucht: Die Einfachheit der Mittel, die Reinheit der Farbe und das gezielt herbeigeführte belebende Ungleichgewicht der Bildkomposition sind ihre wesentlichen Kriterien. Als Studentin im Queens College in New York hat die Künstlerin ihren Ansatz im New York der 1960er-Jahre herausgebildet. Während viele ihrer Kollegen den «Ausstieg aus dem Bild» proklamierten, hat Korman sich der fortwährenden Erkundung der Bildfläche verschrieben. Daraus resultierten Werke von unterschiedlichem Ausdrucksgehalt – malerisch, organisch oder geometrisch geprägt.
