It is with great pleasure that we announce the opening of James Turrell's installation «A CHAPEL FOR LUKE and his scribe Lucius the Cyrene», 2022 at the Diözesanmuseum Freising (DE). Häusler Contemporary is delighted to have mediated and accompanied this unique collaboration between the artist and the Diözesanmuseum.
In the house chapel of the former Freising Boys' Seminary (Knabenseminar), James Turrell has installed a cross-room light installation in the form of a so-called «Ganzfeld». In allusion to the Freising image of St. Luke, the most important Byzantine icon in the collection of the Diocesan Museum, he named his work «A CHAPEL FOR LUKE and his scribe Lucius the Cyrene». Architecturally, the image of St. Luke and the light installation lie in the same visual axis. Upon entering the the visitors experience the phenomenon of a complete loss of depth perception. Thus the boundaries of space and time are seemingly dissolved, new inner perspectives are created and meditative situations are triggered.
Opening hours:
The installation is permanent and can be visited daily Tuesday to Sunday from 11-12 and 14-15.
