Häusler Contemporary is very pleased to have mediated and accompanied James Turrell's «Skyspace Espíritu de Luz», one of the largest artworks of its kind in Mexico to date. Designed to have capacity for 70 people, the Skyspace, located at the site of the Tec de Monterrey campus, is an important link between the university campus and the public space.
«This is a piece that belongs to the university, to Tec de Monterrey. Ultimately, I'll leave it here and people here will know more about it than I do. I imagined it, installed it, began it, but it will become yours,» James Turrell
«Skyspace Espíritu de Luz» offers an immersive installation that aims to explore the limits of visual perception and the nature of light itself. It consists of three main areas: the exterior contemplative area, the interior chamber and two 10-meter tunnels to enter and exit. Inside, a unique visual experience takes place every 12 hours in the morning and evening.
The project was commissioned by DistritoTec and developed in collaboration with the Tec de Monterrey Art Initiative and AC Art Laboratory. It was produced by Häusler Contemporary with its partner gallery OMR in Mexico City. On this occasion, the Pabellón Expositivo Arte A.C. opened an exhibition entitled «James Turrell: Espíritu de Luz» to document the process of creation and construction of Turrell's new project in Monterrey.
